Branch Austin McCormick stand together with Resolution in the promotion of their Annual Awareness Week 2023. Resolution works to raise awareness of family law issues and the benefits of constructive and non-confrontational approaches to family disputes.
Resolution’s Annual Awareness Week takes place from 27 November to t 1 December. To celebrate 40 years of championing reform, Resolution will be using their Annual Awareness Week to launch their Vision for Family Justice.
Resolution is the natural home for family lawyers seeking to promote out of court dispute resolution processes. Our family lawyers at Branch Austin McCormick adopt the Resolution code of practice which promotes a constructive and collaborative approach to family law issues. Resolution members are required by the code to work in ways that “reduce or manage any conflict and confrontation“ within separating families.
The focus of Resolution’s campaigns for this year is the promotion of early legal advice for separating couples, improving the rights of cohabiting couples, and providing alternatives to resolving family disputes outside of the court system.
Both Resolution and the Law Society are campaigning for legal aid to be re-introduced for early legal advice, particularly for family and housing law. Their research shows a clear statistical link between getting early legal advice and resolving problems sooner.
While cohabiting couples are the fastest growing family type the law does not recognise these couples in the same way as couples who are married or in a civil partnership. Cohabiting couples must take specific measures to protect themselves. Resolution is campaigning for cohabiting couples to have at least basic rights on relationship breakdown.
Resolution members promote a wide range of out of court dispute resolution processes. They help clients reach agreement through mediation, the collaborative process, solicitors’ negotiation, arbitration, roundtable discussions, and private Financial Dispute Resolution hearings. The advantage of out of court settlements is clear. Clients can reach an early and economic resolution to their cases, saving costs and time.
