Solicitors specialising in Indefinite Leave to Remain Applications
An Indefinite Leave to Remain (“ILR”) enables a person to stay in the UK and remain without any restrictions, free from immigration control.
Following a successful grant of Indefinite Leave to Remain status, one can usually apply for British citizenship after 12 months. The process can be technical and difficult to navigate which is why many clients choose to instruct our specialist immigration solicitors and advisors to advise and assist.
How we can help
- Eligibility assessment – we can advise you on whether you meet the requirements for ILR based on your current status and immigration history.
- Documents gathering – the application will need supporting documentation. We can assist in ensuring you get this right.
- Application guidance – we work closely with you and will guide you through the process of completing the form and ensure all sections are filled accurately.
- Life in the UK test – some ILR routes require passing the Life in the UK test. We provide guidance for preparing for the test.
- In case of refusal – if your application is refused, we advise you on your options, prospects and representation in the review process.
Thinking about settling permanently in the UK? Are you eligible?
Before applying, check if you meet the criteria. This usually involves holding a qualifying visa for a minimum period (often 5 years but can be less for different visa types such as – Global Talent or Innovator) and meeting good character and residency requirements. You cannot spend more than 180 days outside the UK in any 12-month period during your qualifying residence time.
Process for applying
- Complete the online application form.
- Pay the application fee.
- Schedule a biometric appointment for fingerprints and photo.
- Submit supporting documents electronically or at your appointment.
Standard processing takes up to 2-4 months. Priority service offers a decision within 5 working days for an extra fee. Super-priority service provides a decision in 1 business day at an even higher cost. Fees ranges from £500 to £1,000 extra.
Do dependents also qualify for Indefinite Leave to Remain?
Spouse, partner, and children under 18 meeting specific criteria may apply for ILR alongside you.
